About

Sonia Spooner grew up in Surrey BC. She started becoming involved in ministry early on working with kids and began leading worship at the age of 14 while taking a Worship course elective at the Christian school she attended, Regent Christian Academy. Worship opened up a whole new world for her of connection with Jesus and affection for His church. After graduation she spent a summer as a Kid's Church intern working for a local church running a summer VBS as well as leading worship and following that she attended the Jesus School of Discipleship in Kamloops, BC which was founded and ran out of The Feast Church with Pastors Nolan and Heather Clark. This period was a great time of growth in worship ministry for her and also where she met her future husband of now 10 years, Matthew Spooner, who was also a student at that time. The school partnered together with remote First Nations communities to minister to the youth, host worship and ministry events as well as minister in the local missions and prisons. Following her time at Discipleship School she completed a 6 month worship ministry internship under Heather Clark and later became a part of the church staff working as the secretary while teaching classes in the Worship and Discipleship Schools that were still in operation at The Feast Church. Sonia and Matthew reconnected during this time while he returned to Kamloops to work in leadership with the Discipleship School and later in Youth Ministry. They began dating and married the following year in 2005. They continued to live in Kamloops and work with The Feast Church, later renamed Grace Life Church, until they moved to Dawson Creek in 2014. Sonia is currently a stay at home mom working with the young kids in her care using an award winning preschool program, Mother Goose Time. Matthew and Sonia have 4 children - Liam (7), David (5), Myƫlle (3) and Isla (1). Sonia and Matthew continue to lead worship together when asked.
"We believe that it is through worship, true worship - that doesn't just happen on a stage, but happens in our homes and our lives lived everyday displaying the fruit that comes from having encountered the love of God, that we know Him more. We begin to look like Jesus, act like Jesus, love like Jesus and show the world that His love, freedom, and healing is for them. It is through prayer and worship that we see His Kingdom always coming and His will being done - not just 'one day' when he returns but NOW as heaven touches earth. Worship is so much more than just singing songs. It is a relationship of open expression to God where, out of the extravagance that he has already given us, we we sing because ... we can't help it."
