Another Look at Goldilocks

With all this learning about the way we live and types of habitats that animals live in, it's fun to jump back into literature and exercise our imaginations. We'll sneak in some reading comprehension and language arts too but the kids won't even notice.

This month MGT sent us Goldilocks and the Three Bears; this one, however, had a cute twist. Goldilocks has lost her bear and spends a fitful night in her dream looking for him. It's in her dream that she visits the three bears house but rather than messing up their house and eating their porridge Goldilocks does their dishes and tidies their house until she falls asleep in baby bears' bed and wakes up in her bedroom finding her baby bear as she tidies. It's a positive spin on a classic fairy tale that I love. The book emphasizes the up side of tidying and being helpful; we can find things we have lost.

I Cut out our Story pieces that went with the story board and the kids pulled them out of the ziplock bag and took turns retelling the story.

It was fun to hear how they each interpreted the story as they told it back to each other.

3 year olds have a tendency to want to correct each other on facts they know. I tried to get them to keep it positive saying that in this activity during their turn they could tell the story however they liked. When it comes to creative writing - freedom is so key. There are no wrong answers or mistakes when you are using your imagination.
